Grant Thornton UK partnered with BEYOND to deliver a pioneering reuse-focused workplace strategy for its new London hub. By retaining and repurposing existing materials, furniture, and architectural elements, the team sought to reduce the environmental impact of real estate turnover while still reflecting Grant Thornton’s distinct identity and culture.

The project achieved a 79% total reduction in embodied carbon (1,336 tons of CO₂, equivalent to 2,265 flights from New York to London), with 38% of savings realized through repurposed flooring alone. In total, 64% of finishes were reused, more than 1,700 pieces of furniture (~67%) were integrated, and a full barista bar was dismantled, relocated, and reassembled in the new headquarters. During construction, 100% of demolition waste was diverted from landfill, and non-reusable items were donated through Waste to Wonder, supporting community organisations.

All new materials introduced were responsibly sourced and screened for low Global Warming Potential (GWP), including cork, reclaimed wood, and coffee-ground-based furniture from sustainable manufacturer Mater. The space is tracking a 20% reduction in operational carbon and a 40% reduction in water use through new high-efficiency fixtures. Designed around employee wellbeing, the workplace incorporates natural finishes, wellness and prayer spaces, and varied work settings that foster both focus and collaboration, supporting a full-time occupancy of 956 people.
